In this video interview, Dr. David Crenshaw talks about his experiences using play therapy with children and the importance of the concept of "being with" in the play therapy experience.  David explains how powerful a play experience can be for children when the focus remains on the relationship between the child and the therapist rather than specific interventions or techniques. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will identify at least 3 specific components of the play therapy process.

2. Participants will describe at least 3 specific features of therapeutic presence.

3. Participants will describe what Carl Rogers meant by "deep hearing" and how it applies in play therapy sessions.

4. Participants will describe why reflective practice and supervision are essential to a healing way of being in play therapy.

Guest Speaker

Dr. David Crenshaw is clinical director of the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie. He is past President of the New York Association for Play Therapy and the Hudson Valley Psychological Association. 

He is a board certified clinical psychologist, a fellow of APA, and a fellow of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychology. He is also a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor.

In 2009, he was awarded the Excellence in Psychology Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award by the HVPA. He is the author/editor of numerous books on play therapy.

Jennifer Taylor Play Therapy Services is an Approved Provider with the Association for Play Therapy. (APT Approved Provider 12-331).  Play therapy credit available to mental health professionals only as listed in each course description.  Courses that do not qualify for play therapy credit are clearly listed.
