Course Description

In this video interview, Carrie provides an introduction to Eye Movement Densensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and how it can be used throughout the 8 stages of treatment in combination with play therapy techniques.  Carrie explains how children respond differently to EMDR techniques and modifications that play therapists and other clinicians can make to make EMDR more play-based. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the theory of EMDR and how it can be used within a play therapy setting.

2). Explain the 8 stages of EMDR and how/when to incorporate play therapy at each stage.

3). Provide examples of ways to use relaxation and resource development techniques in a play therapy setting.

4) Explain how to use EMDR with play therapy with very young children.

5.  Describe ways that EMDR can be used for issues not related to trauma including test anxiety and performance enhancement.

Carrie Carr, MA, LCPC is dedicated to the art of well-balanced psychotherapy. She is a certified EMDR clinician and consultant with over 10 years of experience with EMDR Therapy. She is an active member of the ACA, APA, ICA, EMDRIA, IMHCA, and is a Gottman trained couples clinician. She is currently a member of the EMDRIA board, involved with the Chicago EMDRIA regional group, and speaks frequently for the Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association (IMHCA) annual conferences as well as PESI, Inc.Jennifer Taylor Play Therapy Services is an Approved Provider with the Association for Play Therapy. (APT Approved Provider 12-331).  Play therapy credit available to mental health professionals only as listed in each course description.  Courses that do not qualify for play therapy credit are clearly listed. Jennifer Taylor has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider ACEP No. 6928.  Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly marked.  Jennifer Taylor is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
