Course Description
Play in therapy dates back to the early 1900s in psychological and counseling theory. This 3 hour recorded course will explore the early beginnings and references of what is now modern-day play therapy. Origins in psychological and counseling theory will be explained and the emergence into formal play therapy theories will be covered. The emergence of play therapy theories (child centered play therapy and filial therapy) will be covered. Additionally, this course will also highlight historically significant developments in in play therapy and look at the current global impact.
Learning Objectives:
1) Understand the early implementations of play in therapy.
2) Describe a timeline of play therapy development to present day.
3) Discuss the beginnings of play therapy theory formation.
4) Identify significant play therapy developments such as the formation of the Association for Play Therapy.

About This Training:
This is a non-contact online/home study training that focuses on play therapy supervision issues when working with parents.
You will need internet access to complete this training.
You will be asked to read through the PowerPoint (this is your training guide), you will also be asked to read articles/readings, watch video clips, and complete experiential activities.
It’s expected that you will complete all the exercises and not skip over any parts of this training. Many of the exercises are referenced on the post exam at the end of the training.

Continuing Education:
This training is approved for 3 CE Hrs for the below continuing education bodies. Upon completion of the training materials, training evaluation, and post exam (with a score of 80% or higher), the training certificate of completion will be issued to the participant.
- Robert Jason Grant Ed.D APT Approved Provider #12-318 for continuing education. If you are counting this training toward the 150 hours to become an RPT or RPT-S or renewing your RPT-S, the 3 hours can be calculated for APT supervision hours.
- AutPlay Therapy Clinic has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6595. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. AutPlay Therapy Clinic is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
Instructor Robert Jason Grant, EdD, M.S., LPC, NCC, RPT-S
I hold a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership, Master’s Degree in Counseling, and Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and families, primarily serving neurodivergent children (autism, ADHD, sensory differences, learning disorders, and developmental disabilities). I am the creator of AutPlay® Therapy, an integrative family play therapy framework designed to help address the mental health needs of neurodivergent children and adolescents. I am also trauma informed and trained and utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
I utilize several years of advanced training and my own lived neurodivergent experience to work with children and their families. I have infused my experience and love for education and mental health care to create training programs for professionals and caregivers. I am an international trainer and keynote presenter having presented for the American Counseling Association, Association for Play Therapy, American Mental Health Counselors Association, and The World Autism Congress. I am also a multi-
