In this video interview, Dr. Angela Cavett discusses Integrative Attachment Informed Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy. She will describe the tiered approach based on relationship/attachment behaviors of the parent and child. She will briefly explain the Vygotskian foundation of IAI CBPT which allows this play therapy approach to utilize the strengths of approaches such as Theraplay TM and TF-CBT. She will describe the IAI CBPT principles and components. An introduction to how the components are addressed across the three tiers will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the play therapy model of  Integrative Attachment Informed Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy (IAI CBPT).

2. Explain the basic  principles of IAI CBPT.

3. Explain how  Vygotskian concepts inform IAI CBPT.

4. Briefly describe each of the tiers and give an example of how the component of Regulation/Relaxation is addressed at tiers III, II and I.

Guest Speaker Angela Cavett, PhD, LP, RPT-S

Dr. Angela Cavett is a child and adolescent psychologist and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. She specializes in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with mood, anxiety, behavioral, pervasive developmental and executive functioning disorders and trauma/abuse and attachment concerns.Dr. Cavett earned her Masters from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and her doctorate from the University of North Dakota. She completed a child clinical psychology internship at the Astor Home for Children in Rhinebeck, NY.She is an international presenter of continuing education as an Association for Play Therapy Approved Provider #14-371. She is the author of numerous chapters on play therapy including two in the book Treating Trauma and Traumatic Grief in Children and Adolescents: Treatment Applications edited by Cohen, Mannarino, and Deblinger and is author of Structured Play-Based Interventions for Engaging Children and Adolescents in Therapy.She is a Certified Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral (TF-CBT) therapist and a Certified Theraplay Therapist. She has been active in committees with the Association for Play Therapy, is a founding member and was the first interim president of North Dakota APT and is the president-elect for the North Dakota Psychological Association. Angela lives in West Fargo, ND with her husband, daughters and golden retriever. She loves treehouses, fairies, and playing with her children.Jennifer Taylor Play Therapy Services is an Approved Provider with the Association for Play Therapy.
