Course description

This 2 hour webinar provides an overview of what a child typically experiences emotionally, mentally and physically when experiencing the loss of a loved one, a pet, a friend or the grief and loss experienced when having to move away from familiar school, family and friends. We will discuss how play therapy can assist a child in moving through the process of grief and loss and we will review ways to help care-givers use play based interventions at home and school to assist the child’s process.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will receive an overview of the nature of grief, circumstances that may elicit grief-based emotions, cognitions and behavior specific to children.
  • Participants will learn how CCPT combined with gentle and facilitative play therapy interventions can help children move through all the stages of grief understanding the stages may not be in a particular order.
  • Participants will learn how to bring play-based interventions and psycho-education to the parents, teachers and/or other caregivers to support the child’s process of healing.
