This 2 hour webinar provides an overview of what a child typically experiences emotionally, mentally and physically when experiencing the loss of a loved one, a pet, a friend or the grief and loss experienced when having to move away from familiar school, family and friends. We will discuss how play therapy can assist a child in moving through the process of grief and loss and we will review ways to help care-givers use play based interventions at home and school to assist the child’s process.
After taking this training, participants will be able to achieve the following learning objectives:

1.  Describe the nature of grief, circumstances that may elicit grief-based emotions, cognitions and behavior specific to children.

2. Explain how child centered play therapy combined with gentle and facilitative play therapy interventions can help children move through all the stages of grief understanding the stages may not be in a particular order.

3. Report how play-based interventions and psycho-education to the parents, teachers and/or other caregivers can best support the child’s process of healing.
