Course Description:

This interactive 3-hour webinar provides mental health professionals with a comprehensive platform to explore and address questions related to childhood sexual trauma. Topics will include recognizing the impact of trauma, effective therapeutic approaches, navigating complex client dynamics, and promoting healing and resilience. Led by experts in trauma therapy and play therapy, this session aims to enhance your confidence and skills in supporting adult and child survivors of childhood sexual trauma.

Objectives:

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the short- and long-term effects of childhood sexual trauma on emotional, psychological, and relational health.
2. List evidence-based approaches and interventions for working with survivors of childhood sexual trauma.
3. Address common challenges in therapeutic work with individuals who have experienced childhood sexual trauma.
4. Develop strategies for fostering safety, trust, and resilience in the therapeutic relationship.
5. Gain answers to frequently asked questions and concerns related to treating childhood sexual trauma in children.

Instructor Jodi Mullen, PhD, LMHC, NCC, RPT-S, CCPT-Master

Dr. Jodi Mullen is a professor at SUNY Oswego in the Counseling & Psychological Services Department. She primarily teaches in the Mental Health Counseling Program. She is the director of Integrative Counseling Services, with several offices in Central New York. Dr. Mullen is an international speaker, author, credentialed play therapist and play therapy supervisor. Dr. Mullen has over 30 years in the field of counseling. She has authored books on play therapy, counseling children and adolescents, supervision, grief counseling and parenting. Dr. Mullen was the 2008 recipient of the Key Award for Professional Training & Education through the Association for Play Therapy. She is the proud Momma of Leah & Andrew.

Instructor Shani Verschleiser, AuD, LCSW

Shani Zoldan-Verschleiser, AuD, LCSW, has a private practice in Brooklyn, NY where she treats Adolescents and Adults. She has extensive training in the treatment of trauma and attachment-related issues. She uses a combination of modalities to treat each client in the way that suits them best; primarily Somatic Experiencing (SE)/Somatic Interventions, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR, IFS, TIST, Breathwork, and Brainspotting. Shani is a noted author, and speaker devoted to advancing family and child safety. She founded MagenU.org, through which she has educated tens of thousands of individuals on Child Sexual Abuse prevention. An influential figure in the realm of child protection, she has played a pivotal role in developing curricula aimed at empowering communities to safeguard their children. Shani's expertise shines through her written contributions to esteemed publications such as the NY Times, Today’s Parent, and diverse international platforms. Shani remains at the forefront of trauma-focused care and child protection, embodying a commitment to making a lasting impact on the well-being of individuals and families. Shani is also the proud mother of 4 children

Instructor Vanessa Kellner, LCC, RPT-S, CCPT-S

Vanessa Kellner is a licensed clinical counselor and the owner of Wholesome Healing, a private practice specializing in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), located in Severna Park, MD. She is an author, play therapist, and play therapy supervisor, credentialed as a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S) through the Association for Play Therapy (APT), and certified as a Child-Centered Play Therapist (CCPT) through the University of North Texas Center for Play Therapy (UNT) and a Child-Centered Play Therapist Supervisor (CCPT-S) through the National Institute of Relationship Enhancement (NIRE). Vanessa was honored to receive the 2024 Play Therapist of the Year Award from the MD/DC Association for Play Therapy branch. Vanessa has over 10 years in the field of counseling. She has co-authored a book chapter on how supervisors can recognize and address compassion fatigue in play therapists. She is also a registered yoga teacher, bringing her expertise and experience in yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness to her clinical work. She is passionate about her roles as a play therapist, supervisor, and practice owner, but most importantly in her role as a mom of 3.
