In the video interview, Holly Willard LCSW, RPT-S, will be discussing her book: “You Are Amazing.” The coloring book teaches good touch versus bad touch while encouraging self-esteem. In our modern society, our children need to be educated about and protected from abuse.

Children need to understand the proper words for their private parts and that no one has the right to harm them or make them feel uncomfortable. Even more importantly, they need to recognize that they have value and can stand up for themselves. The book has fun, creative activities to build self-esteem, increase knowledge and strengthen bonds with caregivers. The book is based on play therapy and in the workshop she will describe additional experiential interventions that therapists can use.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe possible risk factors and symptoms of sexual abuse. Including empirical based treatment and recent statistics.

2. Identify three theoretical foundations of Play Therapy and identify appropriate use of the different Play Therapy approaches with sexual abuse, sexual reactivity and/or teaching appropriate touch.

3. Describe how to include caregivers in teaching appropriate touch and self-esteem.

4.Describe five Play Therapy interventions for teaching healthy touch, self-esteem or healing from sexual abuse.
