Objectives

1. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the therapeutic principles underlying play therapy and its effectiveness in supporting communication, emotion regulation, relationship enhancement, and personal strengths in children and adolescents.

2. Participants will learn and practice a variety of hands-on play therapy interventions designed to address core areas of a child’s and teen’s development, enhancing their ability to create lasting change in clinical practice.

3. Participants will acquire strategies to articulate the benefits of play therapy to parents and caregivers, effectively addressing common concerns and misconceptions about its role in the therapeutic process.

Instructor Clair Mellenthin, PhD, LCSW, RPT-S

Clair Mellenthin, PhD, LCSW, RPT-S holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California. Throughout her career, she has focused on providing play therapy to children, teens, and their families. She is currently the Director of Child & Adolescents at Wasatch Family Therapy.Ms. Mellenthin is a sought after supervisor, training graduate students and interns in play therapy, and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Southern California MSW program. She is the Past-President of the Utah Association For Play Therapy and remains an active member on the Board of Directors. She is the author of Attachment Centered Play Therapy, My Many Colors of Me Workbook.
