About This Training:
This training focuses on learning about and integrating story methods into play therapy when working with autistic and neurodivergent children.
You will need internet access to complete this training.
You will be asked to read through the PDF PowerPoint (this is your training guide), you will also be asked to read articles/readings, watch video clips, and complete experiential activities.
It is expected that you will complete all the exercises and not skip over any parts of this training. Many of the exercises are referenced on the post exam at the end of the training.
If you are counting this training toward the 150 hours to become an RPT or RPT-S, the 6 hours can be calculated as any combination of 6 toward special topics, or 6 toward applicants’ choice.

Training Description:
This training focuses on learning about and integrating into play therapy, 6 different story-based methods used with autistic and neurodivergent children. Bibliotherapy, Social Stories, Social Scripts, Comic Strip Conversations, PrepChats, and ChoicesChats will be described and explored. Each story-based method will include examples and play therapy implementation. Additional story-based play therapy interventions will also be covered. This training will include case examples, video clips, and experiential activities.
Training Learning Objectives:
1) Describe and integrate Social Scripts into play therapy work.
2) Describe and integrate PrepChats and ChoicesChats into play therapy work.
3) Identify how children can benefit from experiencing story-based methods in play therapy.
4) List at least two play therapy interventions using story methods.
5) Understand how to include and train parents to implement various story-based methods.
6) Explain why a Social Story would be use in play therapy work.
Continuing Education:
This training is approved for 6 CE Hrs for the below continuing education bodies. Upon completion of the training materials, training evaluation, and post exam (with a score of 80% or higher), the training certificate of completion will be issued to the participant.
